Todo.txt for Chrome – Unified supporter status

subsynced

Supporter features on Todo.txt for Android

Supporters of Todo.txt for Chrome can now also access supporter features in the Todo.txt Android app.

Most new subscriptions should be automatically synced with the server. For older subscribers, or if subscription doesn’t auto sync, please provider your order number on the Options screen.

enterorderid
Provide order number to enable subscription sync

Once the order id has been provided, the subscription may show as ‘pending verification’. Once the server has verified the subscription (may take up to 24 hours), the subscription will show as ready to use on Android.

No additional action is required in the Android app. Sign-in using the same Dropbox/Google Drive account on Android, and the app will automatically enable all supporter features.

Privacy & data

To enable the unified supporter status, the extension uploads a secure, irreversible hash of your email address and provider name (Dropbox or Google Drive), along with your subscription order id to a secure server. When you login to the Todo.txt app with same email address and file provider on Android, the app will automatically sync your supporter status from the server, and provide full access to supporter features.

The email address is hashed inside the app before uploading to the server, so the server never sees the real email address, only its encrypted, salted hash. The privacy statement has been updated for these changes.

Please get in touch using the in-app feedback form if you have any queries about this change.

Other details
  • Supporter sync is only available to paying supporters. Syncing is not available for reward tokens.
  • There may be a delay of 24 hours after subscription before supporter features are available on the other app.
  • Supporter sync is only tested on official Chrome browser. It will probably not work if you are using another Chrome-based browser—Vivaldi, Edge, Brave, or others.
  • If you are a supporter but don’t see supporter access in the app, please contact me using the feedback form in the app where you joined as supporter.

Todo.txt for Android & Chrome – Unified supporter status

Unified supporter status is coming soon (experimental)

Unified supporter status will enable access to Supporter features on both Todo.txt apps—Chrome and Android—as long as you have an active supporter subscription on either one.

No action is required by you. Both apps will automatically sync the existing and new subscriptions.

Privacy & data

To enable the unified supporter status, the app uploads a secure, irreversible hash of your email address and provider name (Dropbox or Google Drive), along with your subscription order id to a secure server. When you login to the Todo.txt app with same email address and file provider on another platform, the app will automatically sync your supporter status from the server, and provide full access to supporter features.

The email address is hashed inside the app before uploading to the server, so the server never sees the real email address, only its encrypted hash. The privacy statement is updated for these changes.

Please do get in touch using the in-app feedback form if you have any queries about this change.

Other details
  • Supporter sync only works when using Dropbox or Google Drive for syncing because local file syncing is not supported in the Chrome extension.

Experimentally enabled from v 2020.608.8.34 of the Chrome extension, and v 2020.0608.4.3 of the Android app.

Todo.txt for Chrome – Problems in Dropbox integration

UPDATE (17 Apr 2020, 15:00 BST)

The updated version of the extension (v. 8.32.9) with the bug fix is now available in the Chrome Web Store. Chrome will auto-update the extension in a few hours, or you may force a manual update to update immediately.

Original post:

There is a bug in the current published version (v. 8.31.17) of Todo.txt for Chrome that affects Dropbox integration. Login and syncing with Dropbox is broken because of this bug. Syncing with Google Drive is unaffected.

I have already submitted an update with the bug fix (v. 8.32.9).

Screenshot 2020-04-16 at 16.40.32.png

However, due to new processes and covid19 related delays, the extensions review team and Google currently takes anywhere from 2-21 days to approve updates.

I am sorry about this issue. Hopefully, the update will get approved and rolled out quickly. I will update this post when the update is available. Continue reading “Todo.txt for Chrome – Problems in Dropbox integration”

Todo.txt for Chrome – due date and threshold date text improvements

Accept weekday names for dates in task text

Todo.txt for Chrome now accepts weekday names as input when used with ‘due:‘ or ‘t:‘ in task text.

The extension parses the day name, and replaces it with date representation. The date chosen is always in the future: creating a task with ‘due:Wednesday‘ on Thursday, will set due date to next Wednesday.

The accepted strings for both due-date and threshold-date are: today, tomorrow, yesterday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday andsunday.

Prompt accepted day strings for dates in task text

The extension now suggests accepted date strings when ‘due:‘ or ‘t:‘ are typed in the task text. The suggested dates are the same as accepted strings listed above.

Bug fixes

  • Edited tasks were written at end of file. Now they are edited in place. New tasks and restored tasks are placed at end of file.
  • If task due date was already in future, setting due date to next week did not work. Fixed.
  • Task count on extension badge changed only after sync was complete. Fixed.

That’s all for now.

As usual, please share any bugs, or new feature suggestions that you come across.

Cheers!

Todo.txt for Chrome – New app icon

New Todo.txt for Chrome app icon
Todo.txt for Chrome app icon

The Todo.txt for Chrome extension has a new app icon. It’s simpler, cleaner, and is better visible against all backgrounds.

Both the Todo.txt app for Android and the Chrome extension now share the same app icon.

Updates

  • If current due date is in future, selecting ‘Next week’ option from due date selector will push it forward by one more week.
  • File sync: Edited tasks are updated in their position. Earlier they were moved to end of file. New tasks are still written at end of file.

That’s all for now.

As usual, please do share any bugs, or new feature suggestions.

Cheers!

Todo.txt for Chrome – System dark theme, compact list, sync bug fixes

Follow system theme – dark or light

When system theme is selected, the task list will use dark or light theme based on current system theme. This feature depends on Chrome and the operating system support. At the moment, it appears to be only available in MacOS.

Select ‘Follow system theme’ in settings, or use the keyboard shortcut (‘v + s‘) in task list.

Dark theme updates

Dark theme in task list is available to try for everyone. Dark theme can be enabled from settings, using keyboard shortcut (‘v + d‘) in task list, or by using the theme icon in bottom-right corner of task list window.

Dark theme and system theme are supporter features.
They are free to try for all users, but the theme setting is not remembered—the task list will always open in light theme.

Compact list view (beta)

Compact task list is available to try in beta. Switch list density using keyboard shortcuts:
– ‘l + c‘ for compact list
– ‘l + d‘ for default list

List density is a supporter feature.
It is free to try for all users, but the density setting is not remembered—the task list will always open in default density.

New keyboard shortcut: archive tasks

Archive completed tasks from task list using the keyboard shortcut ‘shift + a‘.

This shortcut is disabled by default since it may interfere with the Add Task shortcut (‘a‘). It may be enabled in settings.

Other updates:

  1. Background sync code has been massively redone to reduce sync errors.
  2. When sharing feedback from in-app feedback link, the app version, browser version and OS name are shared. This helps diagnose issues.

That’s all for now.

As usual, please share any bugs, or new feature suggestions that you come across.

Cheers!

Todo.txt for Chrome – UI tweaks: Smaller header bar, wider search

Compact header bar

Increased space for the task list by making the header bar more compact.

Signed in user name and the log out link – both infrequently used – are now available in the sidebar instead of at top of the app. The syncing indicator (#2 in the screenshot below) now appears in the footer when active.

1 - Name of filter, if current filter text is in saved filters, 2 - Sync indicator moved out of the way
1 – Name of filter, if current filter text is in saved filters, 2 – Sync indicator moved out of the way

The filter field is now wider, and a consumes all available free space in the header. This allows for longer filters to be fully available.

If the current filter text is saved in the sidebar, the name of the filter appears before the filter text (#1 above).

Finally, traversing the task list with keyboard up/down now also focuses on the filter search. Pressing down key when on the last task, or up key from the first task goes to filter input. Pressing down in the filter moves focus to the first task, pressing up focuses the last task.

Other updates

  1. Dates entered in the due date and completion date fields are verified before accepting. A warning message is shown if the date is invalid.
  2. Bug fix: Completion date field was not shown at times when editing a completed task

That’s all for now.

As usual, please share any bugs, or new feature suggestions that you come across.

Cheers!

Todo.txt for Chrome – UI tweaks & code upgrade

Third big update in a row. This means, as usual, things might break. So, please share any issues you discover.

Most of the changes in this update are in the background code – not directly visible in the interface.

The few interface tweaks are:

  1. New keyboard shortcut: Edit selected filter from the sidebar by pressing ‘e‘.
  2. Only new/changed tasks are updated in the task list.
  3. Introduced some motion:
    • Side bar slides in and out, instead of just appearing and disappearing
    • The updated/filtered tasks in task list slide in and out.
    • While navigating the task list, the higlight fades in and out.
  4. Bug fix: When filter list was collapsed in the sidebar, bottom buttons in the sidebar became inaccessible using keyboard. Fixed.

That’s all for now.

As usual, please share any bugs, or new feature suggestions that you come across.

Cheers!

Changing task priority: p + a..z

New: More keyboard shortcuts

Continuing with yesterday’s updates, here are the promised keyboard shortcuts:

  • Switch theme: ‘v‘ followed by ‘d‘ark or ‘l‘ight
  • Switching highlight colours: ‘h‘ followed by
    • g‘ for grey,
    • b‘ for Rebecca purple,
    • v‘ for green,
    • y‘ for yellow, or
    • o‘ for orange

A list of these, and all other keyboard shortcuts is available here.

Helper for multi-key keyboard shortcuts

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Added helper modals to assist with multi-key keyboard shortcuts – changing task priority (‘p‘ + ‘a..z‘), switching theme (‘v‘ + ‘d/l‘), and switching highlight colours (‘h‘ + ‘g/b/v/y/o‘).

When the the first key is pressed, a small window appears in the bottom right with hints about next key options available.

This also helps prevent unknowingly changing priority by indicating priority changing mode is on.

As usual, please share any bugs, or new feature suggestions that you come across.

Cheers!
